Twist Bread (Challah)

Posted by Tom On October - 5 - 2009

I remember when I was a little boy there was a special sweet aroma in the air every weekend, it was the Challah bread that my dad used to buy, later on after so many experiments in the kitchen I found the way to smell it again… and i’m not even talking about the heavenly taste…

Ingridients (3 Challah Bread):

For the Bread: Decoration:
2.200 pound of white flour (can be whole wheat) (1kg)
1 Fresh egg scrambled with table spoon of water
1.750 ounces of butter (50g)
Sesame
2 fresh eggs (scrambled)
1.100 pound of water (500g)

3.5 ounces of white sugar (100g)

1 ounce of fresh yeast (30g)

0.5 ounce of salt (15g)

Preparations:

1. Mix the flour and the yeast

2. mix the eggs with the flour and the yeast

3. after 3 minutes of mixing add the sugar and the salt and the butter and keep on mixing 4 more minutes (in this part you can add: chopped walnuts or raisins)

4. hand mix the mixture for 3 seconds (until the dough is bouncy)

5. cover the dough with towel and let the dough raise for 40 minutes

6. after it raise design the shape you’d like to have and put it in a baking pan covered with towel for more 30 minutes. (you can do a twist shape – like in the pictures)

7. brush the shapes with the scramble egg and sprinkle the sesame on top

8. put it into the preheated oven to 350 (F) (180C) and bake it for 25 minutes or until its golden brown…
